Our Cat - Hermes

When we started to look for another kitty I was happy and nervous. I wanted a kitty that Thalia would enjoy and be able to play with...and one that would make an effort to respect her territory. I also was hoping for a cuddly cat!
We started looking at cats and I wasn't seeing one that just captured my heart. There were quiet kitties, aggressive kitties, loud kitties, ugly kitties, and diva kitties. Black & white kitties, gray kitties, white kitties, and strangely colored kitties. I was becoming discouraged. Nate said that since we already had a black cat maybe we should go for a cat of a different color. I looked in each cage and not one of them shouted "I'm yours. Take me!".

And then...

I spotted a tiny black kitten I hadn't seen before. He was sticking his paws through the cage and squeaking very loudly. Funny thing was that he kept looking right at me. I went over and he seemed to get more excited. I asked if I could hold him and when the cage was opened this tiny kitten literally flew out into my hands. My heart was officially captured. I brought him up to my neck and he immediately started to "make biscuits" on my shoulder while licking my face and neck with a fury. I knew this kitty was mine. End of story. Nate tried to hold him, but the little guy kept trying to jump back over to me. N couldn't top laughing and went to sign the paperwork.

Hermes aka  Mees, Mees-Mees, Little Boy, Baby Boy, Puppy

Hermes sleeps with abandon...and kinda ends up looking like a dog on his back. His claws are sharp and most of the scratches we end up with are because of him. He loves to lick me whenever he gets the chance. It's very much like he's giving kisses rather than cleaning. So sweet! He plays with anything and everything and always kicks his "toys" under closed doors. He eats like a little pig. If there is cat food on the floor than it's Hermes. He can't seem to eat without making a huge mess! Catnip doesn't get him going, but treats are what he lives for. That stuff is like crack to him.

He gets very jealous when Thalia is near me. He will sit on the floor glaring at her and probably utters little kitty death threats to her in their native tongue. Unlike Thalia, he never bothers to jump up on the kitchen counters or bar top (thank god!). When he has something to say he'll say it loudly, but it's hard to take him seriously because he still sounds like a kitten. He loves getting his butt scratched, but if you try to scratch his tummy be prepared for claws digging into you. He has never hissed or yowled or made any mean cat sounds. I'm pretty sure he is incapable of being vocally ugly.

Hermes is seriously a curious cat. He will check out anything even if he is scared to death of it. People intimidate him and so usually he hides in our bedroom. Occasionally he'll come down when people are around and sniff the situation out...make a fast move though and he'll run away.

If Thalia is laying down in a certain spot and then moves, Hermes will immediately "claim" her spot. They occasionally will lay down together and sometimes will lick each other. Suspicion runs high with these two so any sweetness doesn't last long.  They definitely do not hate each other...they just know their own places...sometimes...haha. It's hilarious to watch them play together. They will run back and forth, hunt and pounce, and yes, whenever Hermes is winning Thalia will scream bloody murder. Once that happens they retreat with hurt feeling and angry looks.

He is the only cat we've had that LOVES his cat carrier. We had to take it out of the closet and place it in our loft with a comfy blanket because he was obsessed with sleeping in it. It is super cute. Occasionally we'll walk over to the carrier and tell him "Come on baby boy, go to bed" and he'll literally walk in and lay down. But that doesn't happen too often so we can't really brag about it. :-)

When we're taking a shower he has to be in the bathroom with us. It's so weird. Usually he just sits on the toilet or curls up in the linen closet, but sometimes he'll sit on the shower ledge and just stare at us. I know...he's a creeper! When he wants to look out the window he rarely just sits on the ledge. Most of the time he keeps his butt on the floor and then rests his arms leisurely on the ledge. I have no idea why he likes sitting like that, but I guess it must be comfortable!

He has an obsession with my pink razor. Once he jumped so high he was able to knock my razor off the towel hanger thingy in the shower. He then proceeded to not only cut his paw on it, but refused to let go of the razor. That cat has one tough grip! Poor baby...he got mad at us for his cut paw, but never realized that it was the razor that did it. Needless to say, we keep razors hidden from his view now. My little guy also loves dice. When N was playing D&D with the guys here Hermes would stare intensely at the dice waiting for someone to drop one on the floor so he could grab it and run away.

He is so animated and cuddly. And I'm so glad that he picked me that day! My baby boy is turning 2 years old today. I still think he's a kitty and not a growing cat. We'll be singing him happy birthday and buying him some treats tomorrow. And he'll even get to enjoy an expensive can of wet food. If I could put a tiny birthday hat on his tiny cat head than I would do it...but I won't... reluctantly.

Our Cat - Thalia

Thalia Marie Arnold
aka
Thalie, T-baller, Thalie Wallie, Thalie Wallie Bumpkins, Baby Girl

We love Greek mythology so it made complete sense to name our pets after these mythologies. Thalia is a Muse who presided over comedy and idyllic poetry. We hoped she would be "joyous and crowned with ivy" hahaha poor kitty. But Thalia has her own mind. She is your typical cat. She comes when she wants, she loves on you when she wants, she does what she wants when she wants. She only plays with feathers and jacks. Thalia is in love with shoes and catnip. If you're wet then it's her "job" to lick you clean.

She loves curling up in laundry baskets, sleeping in blankets, and hogging the couch. If you bug her then you'll get a warning growl. If you keep doing what she asked you not to do then she'll either whack at you or bite (biting means putting her teeth on you, but not chomping down). She loves to glare intensely at people, jump up on "no no" places, and "make biscuits" on blankets when she feels safe. Thalia purrs like a freaking motor and likes to have conversations with us when she feels conversational. She also makes this weird, loud snorting sound when she cleans herself. It's hilarious! She hates being held, but sometimes lets us if we are able to distract her with something shiny.

Thalia is very ladylike when she walks and sits. She knows when I'm sick or sad and always curls up really close to me. She loves taking pot-shots at her little brother. Chasing him away from her "sun spot" is a favorite of hers. She loves to play rough with him, but if he starts winning it's a guarantee to hear her yowling and screaming. And yeah...cats can scream and it's scary as crap. Birds always torment her. She gets all antsy and "chirps" at them. We have other cats that hang around the complex, but none hang around our area. One tried and Thalia literally attacked the window screen while hissing and screaming. Scared the crap at me at first and then I couldn't stop laughing!!

Thalia used to love moths. They would become her friends and she talked to them. She just never figured out that when she caught them...they died. It would make me sad when she meowed sadly and looked for the moth up on the walls and ceiling. Poor baby! She also has the most beautiful green eyes. People are always saying how gorgeous her eyes are. They range from a darker green all the way to a piercingly light color. When she wants water from the sink, Nate spoils her and holds the water in his hands and she drinks it up. And yeah, she totally thinks she runs the place. Little brat! :-)

We love our little girl!

Random Thoughts....

I'm sitting here thinking about what to post and I'm not really sure. There are a lot of thoughts floating around... Maybe this will just be a "hey, it's random time" post... :-)

Random Thought #1: I need a job. I want the comic book store job so bad and I'm feeling quite desperate. I told N yesterday that I'm feeling so desperate that I wanted to go over to the store and refuse to leave until they gave me a job. Somehow I don't think they'd appreciate some psycho-geeky girl holding herself hostage with the the comic books. "Give me this job...and...and...the comic books won't be hurt!!!" Hahaha...

Random Thought #2: I haven't read all the blogs I've wanted to read today.

Random Thought #3: I'm starting to love Fridays!! Many thanks to Anna and Jenn for that!!! :-)

Random Thought #4: I have words!! I have good words to give and I'm slowly starting to believe it when I say it...and when I hear that. A part of me wants to delete this random thought, but no! I'm not going to. It feels shameful to say my words are good and it feels easier to just wipe it away, but I think by keeping it and sitting in it this might just be my "curtain" moment.

Random Thought #5: Cat paws hurt like a mother. I love my cats so very much! But wow!!! When they walk on me it freakin hurts. Maybe I feed them too much. And this RT was brought to you by my cat Thalia. She decided to check out what I was doing and the only way to do that was by putting all her front paw weight on my arm.

Random Thought #6: I'm thinking of doing a little word search on the word prayer. I think a blog post should come out of that too... I have alot of thoughts on prayer... Most I've just kept hidden to myself because of people thinking I may not be "Christian enough".

Random Thought #7: I really, really hate the phrase "not Christian enough" and how churchy people make you feel like that just because you don't think like their own narrow little robotic minds. *sigh* I will not let myself rant about this right now....lol...

Random Thought #8: I loved Celebrity look-a-like week on Facebook! It was rather fun! :-) Apparently I look a bit like Salma Hayek. I feel rather flattered people would think I looked like her. I did this face recognition thing on my compy and it told me that I looked like Michelle Yeoh. I took it as a compliment (cuz I love her) and a sign that I will get my Chinese baby someday. Heheh... :-D

Random Thought #9: I need to comment more on people's blogs....

Random Thought #10: I wish more people commented on mine....lol...

Random Thought #11: I love cuddling with my husband and I love how he cuddles so well with me. <3 style="font-style: italic;">Random Thought #12: I am pretty darn sure the Zombie Apocalypse is going to happen. Oh and yes, I think aliens are real. And both scare the ever living crap out of me. I'm also afraid of ghosts, spirits, mummies, creepy children, evil dolls, clowns, people dressed in full body costumes (like at Disney World), the dark, serial killers, snakes, airplanes, snakes on airplanes, roller coasters, lightning, Samuel l. Jackson, monsters, basements, attics, haunted houses, the supernatural, 18-wheelers, popping corks, fire, heights, and bunnies.

Random Thought #13: I love when children ask me what something is or what it means and I give them silly answers. It's quite fun. It's never lying...just exaggerating the truth...a lot. ;-P

Random Thought #14: I'm wondering if anyone actually reads my blog...and what they are thinking about my weird random thoughts right now....haha

Random Thought #15: I don't like talking on the phone. I love texting...facebooking...and emailing....but never talking on the phone. It's very awkward for me.

Random Thought #16: I wish that when people ask for my words or advice that they just take it and not fight it. I'm not the type of person who is going to tell you what you want to hear. If it happens to be that well goody for you...if not...please realize that your silence or rejection of those words impacts my heart more than you realize.

Random Thought #17: I love it when I find people who I click so well with... It feels good and it is so rare.

Random Thought #18: Shower time is when I get a lot of my processing done. The steams helps clear away the cobwebs in my mind and when you are in the shower you can't hide behind anything. Your naked and your mind is naked and thoughts/feelings can just flow like the water...

Random Thought #19: I hope nobody ran away scared cuz of that last thought....hahahahaha...

Random Thought #20: .................I'm done. :-)

Well a lot has been occurring during my absence on this little blog. :-) We have another addition to our family! Hermes Arnold. He is the cutest black kitty with several scattered white hairs and eyes that change from a hazel to light yellow. He is full of energy and full of love to give and receive. N calls him our "affection whore". Hahaha! He loves to be held like a baby every second and he squeaks and grunts in order to get our attention. I will be posting pics soon...I just have to download them off my camera.

Thalia is still trying to get used to him. Sometimes she appears to enjoy playing with him and other times she treats him with scorn. Back and forth they run...jumping, chasing, leaping, attacking. She runs after him and then a second later we'll see her running in the other direction with him close on her heels. Usually he'll jump on her back and down she goes hissing and growling at him. He'll jump off of her, but then a second later they'll be running again.

I think we have the cutest little family! :-D

Our living and dining room have undergone some changes lately. For our anniversary we decided to purchase new furniture from Ikea and re-decorate! I love Ikea! I really, really wish they would build one closer to us...then again if they did I might not leave. Heh. We gave away the recliners, dining room table/chairs, and threw away our futon. Now we have the cutest couch and N got his fav Ikea chair called the Poang and we have a new table with chairs we need to paint to match the table (long story there...lol). Our living room looks so cozy and intimate now. :-) I even re-arranged everything all by myself last weekend. I have a constant need to re-arrange/re-decorate rooms like every six months. It's rather fun!

Some other cool news in our life is that N designed a house for the Parade of Homes! I am sooo proud of him!! I believe the house is all finished and the furniture and last touches are being added before it opens next week. I can't wait to see what my hubby created! I really married the most creative and talented man alive!!

This year will be quite different for me. I started a new job that only requires me to work the weekends. I teach the preschoolers at CBC for all three services on Sunday and I will probably teach some on Saturday nights, but not very often. I have some stories already from the few weeks I've worked there. I'm glad it's only one to two days a week and only for a few hours. Those kids leave me worn out! Also this year I am a Leader-in-Training for Grace Groups at Harvest. Last night was my first night in group and while I am nervous, I am actually looking forward to this! Grace Groups is amazing and I definitely recommend it for everyone. We all have a story and we all need to be heard and this is a place where you can safely do so and receive grace for your wounds.

I'm so looking forward to this fall/winter! Hopefully I'll be more faithful to this blog...lol... I think I will. :-)

The Adventures of Thalia pt. 1

Okay so I didn't think I was going to do 2 posts, but it seems that I have to!! :-) I found our precious cat Thalia licking the wall where our Christmas Tree used to be. Very strange...yes indeed...very strange.

Thalie-boo licking the wall...

This is her "oh no! they caught me!" look. :-)
